The CEO speaks his mind

Turnover at Hectronic has shown a yearly increase between 30% and 50% in the last couple of years. The goal is to maintain that trend and at least double the turnover coming years, but company size is not an end in itself according to Stefan Löf, CEO at Hectronic.

- Growth has given us the possibility to recruit the best engineers in every profession, reach the highest level of product quality and manage a substantial product portfolio, he says.

Not only turnover is growing. Recruitment has resulted in ten new employees last year.

- Adding ten professionals to the staff is perhaps not that impressing to everybody but we have increased the staff from 15 to 25 people in the company. It's a significant growth.

The goal is for Hectronic to develop from a small to a medium sized company in a couple of years. Stefan Löf emphasizes the importance of financially strong shareholders in order to succeed and is satisfied with Verdane Capital as the major shareholder.

- I put great value in the fact that Verdane Capital shows a genuine interest in operational matters and not only stresses short-term profits.

Promoting natural growth

Stefan Löf believes that long-term commitment to business and the will to develop operations actually is a condition to succeed. It's about promoting the good and healthy company with a natural potential of growth.

Hectronic has a unique competence from the Embedded PC market, a competence built from the nearly 20 years in the business. That experience combined with off-the-shelf products of our own and from third party suppliers creates today's offer to customers, mostly in Sweden.

- Despite being a small company it gives us a large product portfolio and we are located close to our customers. That is definitely an advantage over competitors.

Production is one of the keys to success.

- We take on full responsibility not only for development but also production and managing technology content over the lifetime of the product. I believe that it puts us in a unique position, at least in the Nordic region.

Strategy to increase business

The growth strategy is based on continuously strengthening the position as a technical partner in the Nordic countries for tailor-made embedded products and use that knowledge in the development of standard products. Hectronic will expand its geographical market presence by offering these standard products to European customers.

- I believe that we in a few years from now have additional sales offices in the Nordic countries and perhaps a design center in a country outside the Nordic region. We are a well-known and respected player in the European embedded market place.

The long-term growth plan is now being realized. The first standard products, two ARM modules have been launched. Distributors will be contracted and it's important to find the right companies for the task.

- The difficulty is to find companies big enough to offer the resources for marketing and sales activities but not too big so that our products disappear among all other products offered.

Two ARM modules are launched and more is coming. The short-term road map contains modules based on the new low power Intel ATOM processor.

- I'm excited about developing custom computer boards based on the ATOM processor and offering off-the-shelf products with it as well. We are ahead of competition since we are an Intel embedded launch partner.

Customers focusing on core competence

Stefan Löf means that technical change favors a company of Hectronic's type. Embedded computers are part of a vast amount of products in a variety of areas in modern society. The customers are likely to focus on their core competence, according to Stefan Löf. A customer developing mechanical products wants to focus on mechanics even though an embedded computer is part of the product.

The trend is that customers want to buy embedded computers rather than developing themselves.

- Our business concept is right on target, says Stefan Löf, and as prices for embedded technology decreases and formats grow smaller, more and more application areas arise. We have our products in rock drills, fighter jets and trucks already.

When Hectronic's growth plan is realized, in a couple of years, Stefan Löf is confident that list of products that benefit from Hectronic technology will be even longer.
